"This message has not been downloaded from the server" on Iphones/Ipads

Getting this error on multiple IOS (Iphone/ipad) devices. "This message has not been downloaded from the server". It doesn't effect every message, just randomly. Can be reproduced when messages are sent from one of our partners (nearly every message they send will cause this error on the Iphones). We are running Exchange 2010 SP2 Rollup 5v2.

This doesn't not appear to be an issue with spaces in the Exchange "accepted domains" that generally causes this issue, as we have none.

Anyone have suggestions for us?

Thanks

Does it works on Android or Windows Device?

What kind of message is it? With attachment or Plain text?

Works fine on Android and Windows Devices. Only Apple devices have the issue. Doesn't matter what the message format is, html/plain text, with or without attachment.

I've seen this occasionally and forcing Mail.app to close and re-opening usually fixes it. I think it's a bug in Apple's implementation.

If you have time to reproduce it, you could report it to Apple via the following URL:

https://developer.apple.com/bugreporter/

I've reported bugs in Apple's ActiveSync implemention myself and they do look at them.

In our case, this doesn't help. Even after a close, the messages do not download. Given that this occurs every single time from one particular client, I'd expect more people to be complaining if it was a bug. I'm expecting it has to be something unique in our setup/configuration that is causing the issue.

Any other suggestions?

Solved!

GFI hosted spam solution was modifying headers of the messages in a way that IOS devices don't appear to like.

I am still having this issue with all users.  Do I need to make a change in the GFI hosted Spam?

Glad to hear you got it fixed. Any chance you can share what you changed in your GFI hosted solution to resolve this issue? We have GFI MailProtection as well and our CEO is receiving this same error on his iPhone on emails that contain images or advanced formatting.
